HDC 2019: EMUI 10.0 - Beautiful and Smooth
HDC 2019: EMUI 10.0 - Beautiful and Smooth - Finally, the latest version of the Huawei smartphone UI was introduced. After giving a little idea about what EMUI 10 looks like at the opening of the 2019 HDC keynote, today, the team from Huawei explained what was new in the UI version on the basis of this Android Q. The new UI itself, called Huawei, offers more than just an attractive appearance, in which many elements they redesigned to offer "Beyond Beauty".Not Just Appear "Beautiful"
Beautiful and elegant display still the focus of Huawei in this EMUI 10.0. They made fundamental changes to this UI design concept, one of which was by adopting Morandi Color, or the color set commonly used by Giorgio Morandi, an artist from Italy. This color set is widely used for furniture products because it displays an elegant impression and looks comfortable to the eye. The colors of this Morandi Color set will be present in various parts of EMUI 10.0.Huawei also redesigned several icons in EMUI 10.0, using the Golden Ratio aspect. That makes the icon design look more proportional. These two things will make EMUI 10.0 come with a display that is more than "beautiful".
The aspect of usage is also the focus of Huawei in this EMUI 10.0, where several displays in the previous version were improved to make the user experience even better. The camera is the one that gets the display update. Now the camera application will display information mode, zoom, etc., bigger and clearer on the screen.
Carry out inspiration from Magazine Design
Turning to the component layout in the UI, Huawei now uses a magazine-inspired design. The magazine-like design was chosen because it offers a good aesthetic and looks balanced. Portions of text, highlights, photos, and other elements will look unobtrusive. This "magazine-like" aspect will be seen in various EMUI 10.0 elements, starting from the notification bar, the settings menu, to the various default UI applications. The lock screen also gets an updated aspect of the "magazine" appearance, where Huawei is now designing "Magazine Lock", a feature that has existed since a few generations ago EMUI, with a more "balanced" style. This is expected to make Huawei smartphone users even more comfortable.
Dark Mode: More than just Dark
An increasingly popular feature, "dark interface" or whatever it's called, now comes in EMUI 10.0. However, Huawei wants features in their UI, referred to as "Dark Mode" is more than just darkening the appearance. They did a lot of research to determine what sort of elements in the "Dark Mode" would be displayed, including in terms of color, color consistency, and contrast. For a more even experience, Huawei also tries to include the ability to also change the appearance of 3rd party applications to "Dark Mode". This is done from the application layers, where the color will try to be analyzed and changed to the appropriate dark color. This will also be useful if the application does not have a native display option.
The New Smooth and Natural Animations
In-depth research is also conducted by Huawei on the animation side. They tried to change aspects of the animation, including the response, the length of the animation displayed, and what the effect would be if an action was carried out on the screen. The result, EMUI 10.0 will feel smooth, more responsive because the animation aspect is re-tuned by Huawei. As for the effects of movement, Huawei also tries to include aspects of "physics" by making the movement more natural response based on physics calculations. One example that should be felt is the difference when pressing icons and navigating using gestures. Injection aspects of "physics" that makes the movement more "acceptable" by the user, and also affects the comfort.
Always-on-Display: With a New Design
Finally, for "Always-on-Display", EMUI 10 comes with several new designs. The new design for watch faces in AoD is set to be similar to the smartwatch watchface so users can get the same feel across devices. Huawei will also open a special store for AoD display design from 3rd parties, users, and communities for more diverse display options.More Attractive for Women
Overall, EMUI 10.0 still maintains some elements that are considered to be good in previous versions and improves several aspects, making this UI even better. Huawei also mentioned that the attraction for women became one of their considerations, here it was realized by the selection of Morandi Color, and several other aspects. Hopefully, Huawei smartphone products are more accepted in many circles, user segments, and suitable for anyone.EMUI 10.0 is currently in the trial period, on the P30 family device. Apparently, this new UI will come as standard in Huawei's next premium line, most likely the Mate 30 family, which should be there in a few months. Let's wait for the next news from Huawei, regarding the availability of this UI, both in the next Mate line and as an update in their current product range.
